Rules of Conduct

Safety and security depends upon our awareness, mutual cooperation, and responsible behavior.

During Business Hours

  • Regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • All visitors must check in at the front desk (name and nature of business)
  • If you have an office phone, the front desk will call you when you have a visitor
  • If you do not have an office phone, plan to meet your visitor at the front desk
  • If you need to make special arrangements for your visitor, contact the Front Office Manager
  • If there is no one available to cover the front desk, the Front Office Manager will send out a message to the MVZ Community listserv indicating when the MVZ will close and reopen

During Non-Business Hours

  • The front door is locked during non-business hours
  • Plan to be available to let your visitors into the museum
  • Do not prop the door open and leave it unattended
  • Do not allow unknown people to follow you into the museum
  • Ensure that the door closes and locks behind you

At All Times

  • Do not bring live animals (including pets) into the museum
  • Do not eat or drink in the collections or lab spaces
  • Do not give tours of the museum to visitors without the express permission of a curator
  • The doors between the Front Office and the Gallery must be closed for temperature control of the Gallery
  • Be aware of your surroundings and if you see anything out of the ordinary, let someone know

Graduate Students

  • Do not hold office hours inside the museum
  • Specific appointments with individual students are permitted
  • If you have questions about locations for holding general office hours, please consult with the department office of the class you teach
